How to Install Lower Door Inserts on a Can-Am Maverick X3
The Can-Am Maverick X3 is one of the most capable sport UTVs on the market — and lower door inserts are the first upgrade most X3 owners make after taking delivery. The X3's factory doors are open from the factory, which looks great in photos and feels liberating on easy trails. But once you're running real terrain, you want coverage.
The good news: X3 lower door inserts are a true bolt-on install. No drilling, no cutting, no modifications to the factory door frame. If you can change your own oil, you can install these in under 45 minutes.
Tools You'll Need
- 3/8" socket set (10mm primary)
- Combination wrench set
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Clean shop rag
- Optional: Blue Loctite 243 for vibration resistance
2-Seat vs. 4-Seat (X3 Max) — Know Your Platform
The standard Maverick X3 (2-seat) and the X3 Max (4-seat) use different door insert sets. The 2-seat version has two inserts total; the X3 Max requires a 4-door set with both front and rear coverage.
For the standard 2-seat X3, we carry the 2017–2023 Can-Am X3 Plastic Lower Doors. For the X3 Max 4-seat, see our 2017–2024 Can-Am X3 Max Full 4-Door Set.
Step-by-Step Install
- 1Unbox and dry-fit all hardware before starting
- 2Clean the factory door frame mounting points with a rag
- 3Hold the insert against the door frame — flanges should align with factory bolt holes
- 4Thread all bolts in by hand before applying any torque
- 5Snug bolts in a center-outward pattern, then torque to 15–18 ft-lbs
- 6Repeat on opposite side, then close doors to check fit
The X3's door frame has a slight inward taper — make sure the insert's lower edge is seated against the frame rail before threading bolts. A helper on the first side makes alignment much easier.
